Cruise Events turned a Hollywood actor's fan club cruise into
a very special event!
Susan Helfrich, director of Cruise Events, LLC planned a
cruise for Jack
Scalia (of Dallas, All My Children, Remington Steele, etc) and his adoring
fan club which was to cover many hot spots in the Caribbean.
While packing for the cruise, Susan Helfrich got a brain
storm. Her company
specializes in planning group cruises for high profile people. Since 1991,
she has taken actors, writers, talk show hosts and the like cruising all
over the world. She decided it was time to give back. While cruising the
Caribbean Islands and many third world countries, Susan decided to request
that each of her travelers bring clothing, toiletries, anything they no
longer needed, to give to charitable organizations at the ports of each
cruise.
On March 6-13, 2004, Cruise Events, LLC implemented their
first charitable
donation to the island of Jamaica. With much pre-planning and organization
between the United Way, USA, Carnival Cruise Lines and Jamaican officials,
two local charities were the recipient of thousands of dollars of clothing
to help the needy. The National Initiative for Street Children, works to get
young homeless boys off the streets of Jamaica, reconnect them with family
and help infiltrate them back into society. The Windsor Girls Home takes in
homeless girls between the ages of 12-18 years. They provide housing,
schooling and a nurturing environment to help build a strong foundation for
these less than fortunate young girls.
As the director of Cruise Events, LLC, Susan Helfrich is
proud to incorporate this "great giving" into her many planned
cruises each year. Now along with each traveler enjoying an exciting,
luxurious cruise vacation, they can also feel good about contributing to
those less fortunate. What a great combination.
